Hush, Dont Say A Word...

Last night Luis and I went to Hush, this really cool gay bar in Adams Morgan. Actually the place is called Chloe, but Thursday evenings it turns into Hush, a gay club. It is one of the few new gay places in Adams Morgan. Most of the gay bars in DC are in or around Dupont. For those of you who don't know what Adams Morgan and Dupont is, too bad. Just kidding. Adams Morgan is the neighborhood in DC where we live. The people who live around here are very culturally diverse. There's a huge gay crowd as well. Dupont is the gay neighborhood in town. There's gay bookstores, restaurants, bars, and anything else you can imagine. We got to Hush very early (8ish) because from 8 to 10 they have a drink special. You pay a $10 cover charge and you get to drink all you want rail drinks and domestic beers. For the entire summer, there is no cover charge at the place unless you want to enjoy the 8 to 10 special. I woke up today with a huge hangover. I mustve drank like 8 or 9 drinks, and the mixture of the cigarettes and the alcohol just made it worse....ugh.
The place was really cool though. The music is not your typical gay club circuit dance crap. I mean they played dance music, but hip hop and some punk as well. I remember listening to Alanis Morrissette and Madonna. The lights change every so often, and they are dim and romantic. The furniture is very modern and fun. There's like 5 bars and the place has three floors. Oh, and the bartenders and workers there were really cute. heh. You can check out the

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

I just saw a movie trailer for an upcoming movie called 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose'. The movie is based on a true story about a college student who get possessed. The trailer I saw looks really creepy. Laura Linney plays a repressed single lawyer who takes on the church and the state when she fights for the life of a priest who performed a deadly exorcism on a young woman. She has to battle the cocky state lawyer as well as her own lonliness, as she realizes that her career so far has not fulfilled her, nor is she happy in her job on a day to day basis.

Zanthia

I met Zanthia a couple weeks ago. I woke up one morning to find Erika with Zanthia watching Legally Blonde in the living room. Zanthia is Katie's daughter. She's 6 years old. She is a cute little girl and incredibly smart. On the night of July 4th, we all went to the park to see the Firworks and light up some fireworks of our own. Zanthia and Katie hanged out with us afterwards, and since then, Zanthia has been coming over to our house occasionally. Having Zanthia over is like having an old lady who knows alot about life and never shuts up. I catch her talking to herself at times. It's nice to have her around sometimes. She's fun to talk to and she's always trying to impress me with yoga poses or latin dance moves. She can get a bit talkative and obnoxious, but she's a kid. In case I haven't mentioned Katie, she is Erika's new girlfriend. Katie worked at Warder Mansion (Warder Mansion is the apartment building where we live) in the front office. She was actually the one who helped us get the apartment. She lives here as well. Erika had a crush on her since we first moved here, but she didn't know if Katie liked girls. Actually we were pretty sure Katie was straight. Apparently she is bisexual, and she's from Austin! lol

Tequila RainRise

Its 6:45 am and I can't sleep. It's pouring outside, and I can hear sirens. I woke up earlier with a huge headache which is probably due to the amount of alcohol I consumed last night. I must've drank about 5 tequila-infused drinks. The mix of orange juice and ginger ale really got to my stomach. But, it was a fun night, nothing special. Dan, Luis' friend of 5 years came over to hang out last night. We had dinner and watched Signs. Right before Dan got there, Erika had asked if Luis and I could watch Zanthia while her and her new lesbian lovegirl "Katie" fooled around in Katie's apt. Zanthia, by this time, had annoyed the shit out of me. Kids can be so fucking annoying. The only way we could shut her up was to play the Britney Spears Greatest Hits DVD. I just hope Katie isn't upset because that girl learned some really daring and provocative dance moves. So Katie and Erika come back about an hour and half later to pick up Zanthia and finally we get to the Tequila. Dan had never seen Signs. Actually, I don't think he'd ever seen any of the Shyamalan movies. Two weeks ago we got together to see Unbreakable. Maybe next week it wil be The Village. Dan Sherwood is an interesting character. I used to think he had a thing for Luis, but Luis always denied it. I mean maybe he did or does, who knows. But, in the end it seems like alot of his friends always get jealous. I guess its understandable to feel a little jealousy when your best friend starts dating someone, and that someone turns into the love of their life. Soon, your friend is spending less time with you and things change. I completely understand what that feels like.

Dan is a cool guy though. A couple of weeks ago I went shopping with him to H&M. He had asked for me to help him update his look. The poor boy needed help. BAD. I had to get him out of those incredibly boring jean shorts and oversized t-shirts. I had him buy himself a new pair of low rise boot cut jeans, a polo shirt, and a short sleeve button down dress shirt. I have to say that the clothes made him look better. But, I do believe that having a good attitude and wearing something with confidence is what makes you look good, and feel good. Last night however, he was back to his old jean shorts and t-shirt. OH well.

Trip to NYC

About a month ago when my family was here, we took a day out of our schedule to make a trip to NYC. It was a weekday and the weather changed dramatically after we drove past Philadelphia. The entire day in New York was cooooold. Well I guess it was around 50 degrees and sunny which isn't incredibly cold for New Yorkers, but for us it was. Us, the Sunny Armadillos from Texas. LOL It was an amazing feeling to be in the middle of Times Square surrounded by all the beautiful architecture and enourmous buildings, though. I don't think I will ever forget that experience. Seeing the skyline as we drove in from Jersey City was astounding. It was an experience unlike any other. I was so happy to share that trip with my family. I knew it was something really special and I enjoyed spending that time with them because I knew that in a couple days after, they would be leaving back to Laredo. I had a New York style hotdog, got to see ground zero (where the world trade center towers used to be), and I got to experience the tourist side of the Big Apple. One of the things I was anticipating was going to the top of the Empire State Building so that I could see the view from the roof, but because of the heavy fog that day, there was no visibility. I wish I had alot more time to get to see more things. There were so many things I missed. Fortunately, NYC is only about 3 hours away from DC, so Luis and I have already talked about visiting sometime when we're both free..maybe on a weekend.

The Chimney in my Apartment

Here's a pic (a not so good one btw) of the chimney in my apartment. The girl sitting with us is Luis' friend Nicole from Florida. She was visiting us for a while, but now she's gone. She was a cool chic.

Mr. Veloz Goes to Washington

Its been 2 months since my last posting. So much has happened since then. I am finally living in DC. I guess I could call myself a DC-onian or Washingtonian now..heh. I am really excited about my new apartment and my new life. It's so strange to not be home....or at least what I called "home" (Laredo). I miss my family and my friends, but I don't miss the town, or the people from there. I don't miss the community. DC is amazing. I am getting used to the walking. I do alot of walking here, which is good because I've yet to join a gym, and so far my only method of exercise has been jogging. There is a park right around the corner of my apartment called Meridian Hill Park. It's big and beautiful and when I go jogging, I get a magnificent view of the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial. But, the walking keeps me active. The supermarket is walking distance and there is alot of cool shops and markets that ive been visiting that are walking distance as well. I don't have a car here. I left my Cherokee Jeep back in Laredo. I think my mom sold it. But, the metrorail and bus have been my form of transportation aside from walking. I don't mind it in the very least. I was a bit worried that I would get frustrated or annoyed by it before I came here, but it's been cool. The people here are much more friendlier than in Laredo. I'm yet to make friends and meet new people. I hope I get to make good friends because I miss the ones I left behind.

Living with Luis has been wonderful. I know it's been only a month, but I am so incredibly happy, and knowing that we're kiving together finally after 4 years of relationship feels amazing. I love going to bed at night next to him. There's times at night when I wake up and see him lying next to me, and I reach for him and embrace him. Of course sometimes he freaks out and wakes up, but usually he feels my embrace and he holds me as well. That is one of the things I most missed when I was in Laredo. I would go to bed usually missing his presence there. There is no words to explain the safety I feel and the security I have with him by my side. I love him. I adore him. I am astounded by how much he loves me...its scary..lol.

We plan to wed in about a year. We are thinking of late April or July. I'll probably write more about that later. I am so tired today. Need to wake up early tomorrow.
